Thanks for the heads-up. I will be watching it. I am currently reading his "The Lexus and the Olive Tree" and I recommend it.

That book and this writer are by far my favorite out there, in fact my personal quote is from him. He definitely is a modest voice of reason who isn't hotly partisan like most columnists today. One of the few who actually strives to look at all sides of an issue before passing judgement and his pronouncements are usually quite middle of the road.

He's too far left for me. Let's the demis and libs get off the hook way to easily, but then again, he's better than most.

Everyone left of Bill O'Reilly is probably too far left for you? The guy went to India and practically endorsed outsourcing jobs and he has constantly said the war in Iraq was a just war. Unlike most partisan people though, he wisely moves on and says that the important thing isn't to gloat or worry about what you did yesterday, but to concern yourself on what you will do going forward which are precisely my arguments.

Better stated this way IMO:

Learn from the past
Live in the present
Be optimistic about the future

Yes he is a fair minded NY Times writer.

He has been a critic of the war but believes Bushes vision is correct but a longshot and says that the ones that can defeat the terrorist is the muslims but you have to change the region.

He was on the Imus show this morning...Imus in the morning is the best show in the am to watch, its on MSNBC 6 am-to 9 am...its a funny program with serious guest libs along conservatives.

He hasn't really criticized the war as much as the aftermath; before that he has often said getting rid of Saddam was a worthy objective. He has good points in that the people trying to create policy and "democracy incubators" haven't taken the time and effort to understand the culture and history of the place. That lack of understanding is what is causing a lot of issues in his point of view, that the US enforcing its unilateral view of what the world should think is just and fair is getting us into trouble. He does have a compelling argument there, I think we see this widening gulf in many places and an administration that just turns their head and ignores these assertions as if they had the monopoly on good policy.
